'A very sensitive interpreter who was able to capture, like no other pianist before her, Guastavino's message.'
Association of Argentine Music Critics
Described as 'the Schubert of the Pampas' the great Argentine composer, Carlos Guastavino (1912-2000), is best-known for his prolific song output, including iconic lieder such as La rosa y el sauce recorded by the likes of José Carreras, Kiri Te Kanawa, Anna Netrebko and many others. Less familiar (but equally worthy of attention) is his considerable catalogue for piano, full of the lyricism and charm of the composer's local folk influences. In this recital, leading Argentine pianist Lilia Salsano showcases a representative selection of pieces from her 2019 landmark recording of the complete Guastavino solo piano music; the first recording of Guastavino's entire piano literature to be undertaken by a single pianist.

A native of the province of Santa Fe, like Guastavino himself, Lilia Salsano is considered one of the pre-eminent Argentine pianists of her generation. Since graduating from the Universidad Nacional del Litoral she has garnered numerous prizes both nationally and internationally, and also performs frequently at home and abroad - most recently at the Martha Argerich Festival of Buenos Aires. A passionate ambassador for Argentine composers more broadly, she recorded the world premiere album of the complete piano music of Virtú Maragno, and has performed numerous other world premieres, including many pieces dedicated specially to her. Salsano is also the resident pianist of the Provincial Symphony Orchestra of Santa Fe and has performed extensively with other orchestras such as the Juan de Dios Filiberto National Orchestra of Argentine Music, the J. de San Martín National Youth Orchestra and the Academic Orchestra of the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires. Salsano is currently a faculty member at the Antonio Fuentes del Arco Liceo Municipal of Santa Fe.
