'Virtuosic numbers and exquisite, heartfelt songs.'
Classical Guitar Magazine
Join us to discover some fresh, new and irresistible contributions to the flute-guitar repertoire from 'the land of a thousand rhythms'. Accompanied by flautist Emily Andrews, classical guitarist Francisco Correa presents music from his debut album, Música de la tierrita ('music from the homeland'), exploring music for flute and guitar by composers from his native Colombia, including several works written especially for him. These pieces mix classical and Colombian folk styles, drawing heavily on the rhythms and dances of central Colombia, such as the Bambuco, the Pasillo and the Joropo, but using more complex harmonies than traditionally used in folk music. The resulting music is worthy of world recognition on the concert stage while remaining undeniably Colombian.

The Correa Andrews Duo have been performing together across the UK and internationally since 2011, combining music from the classical repertoire and the Latin American world. In addition to their work as a duo, Emily Andrews and Francisco Correa collaborate with prize-winning trio CarmenCo, which won Arts Council Funding to tour the UK with a new concert-play called Creating Carmen, and now is touring its own arrangements of classical masterpieces by Elgar and Mozart.
Emily Andrews graduated in 2010 from the Royal Academy of Music with a Master's degree, where she studied with Clare Southworth and Kate Hill. She also holds a BA in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge. Emily is greatly in demand both as a chamber musician (with her award-winning groups, Trio CarmenCo, the Andrews Massey Duo and Duo Correa Andrews) and as an orchestral freelance musician. Emily works regularly with Welsh National Opera, Opera North, and BBCNOW, and has also performed recently with the Oxford Philharmonic, LPO and RPO.
Francisco Correa has performed concertos with leading orchestras both sides of the Atlantic, most recently the Latin American premiere of Steve Goss’ Guitar Concerto with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia. His debut CD, titled Música de la tierrita received excellent reviews in all the major worldwide guitar publications, including Soundboard and Classical Guitar Magazine.
Organised by ILAMS as part of Echoes Festival 2022 in collaboration with the Instituto Cervantes. Francisco Correa is sponsored by Mundo Music Gear and Cifuentes Strings.
